when I was about 12 or 13 I lived in Pennsylvania and used to fish for carp in a huge pond that was used for ice skating in the winter .
it had a large duck population in it and between the one footed big ducks and the duckling groups that went away day by day I often wondered who was doing that to them poor ducks .
an old timer told me it was a monster snapping turtle which I thought was just to scare me , until one day I foul hooked that there monster snapper in the foot and fought with it for half a day to land it . man was I in the news and mean REALLY , the local newspaper came out and took photos and I was the hero for removing that menace from the duck pond and then the local French food place contacted me and paid me what I thought was BIG money for it and even invited me to have a bowl of soup they made with it .
it was VERY tasty and I used to money to buy more tackle of course
p.s. haven't killed a turtle on purpose since btw
