If your lake is a drawdown lake like ours (Ky Lake) your winter pool is normally 1-5' lower than in the spring. Get the elevation of winter pool and when spring comes get that elevation and subtract the two.Say the winter pool elev is 314 and spring elev is 318 the depth you will be looking to stick with will be 4'. What happens is that during the winter the waves will wash the silt from the gravel banks in the bays and when the water rises in the spring this spot will be the cleanest and perfect for spawning gills. We find these spots by finding out what depth water we're looking for (doing this by subtraction of the two elevations) and go into the coves and fan cast. Do this by setting up in the center in approx 7' of water and casting a 180 degree radius. Cork and 3' of line with normal gill bait, cast out in these zones and retrieve it back slowly. It shouldn't take you long to locate a bed. If their not the size you like move to another spot and try again. Remember, gills normally use the same area to spawn each year so if you locate a good bed mark it for future reference.

Anywhere by the bank or shallows. If there is brush in or under water they will be there. What type of water are you fishing?

Its a small lake that has lots of weeds, 2 fishing piers, lots of points, and fish cribs. I shore fish also. Its deepest is 35' and drops off near shore evenly.
