Thread: A Little Tougher

Another thing that has had my curiosity up for a while got put to bed today. The 1/64 with a collar that I use casts very well, while the ball collar of the same stated size leaves me wanting more. So while I was pouring some replacements for what I’m running low on, I dragged out the little scale to see what’s up. Come to find out that the collared 1/64 actually weighs in at 1/48. I also have a mold for a 1/32 ball head, and guess what it weighs? Close. 1/43 oz. so when I tie for future offerings, I’ll be using the ball head 1/32 mold and tying to copy the plastics that work so well for me. This also lets me fool around with a #6 hook and a little bigger chenille. The micro works well but is just a little skinny and I think small might do a better job. I’ll post when I get some done in both sizes for comparison. Soon......

I use 1/32 collar less heads with a size 8 hook when I need casting distance. I works well for me.

you might want to trim the tails to half length for bream my friend . but for sure I bet the ketch fish

Conrod, yes. These are what I use chasing the gills, but when they are around the Crappie like em just as well. They also bite these long after the bigger baits have shut down.

Grain, I’m curious if you have weighed them to see their true weight. Mine is a do it mold for collarless 1/32 and it really weighs 1/43. It’s probably the same size head as the 1/32 with collar and they just removed the collar and didn’t adjust the size of the head.

Ketchn, I noticed the tails were a bit too long once I got them wet, and a little thin even for maribou. Changes next time around. Might even try a jig and float there with the little headed jigs.

That's one of the reasons I love hand tied jigs over plastics, don't ever have to worry about repositioning or it easily tearing up.....
