These guys don't hit a worm like a bluegill- I almost didn't know he was there:

After I felt him and set the hook, I knew he was there. He fought tooth and nail! He was a little better than 11"- what would you estimate he weighs?

Yep- my wife caught a couple smaller ones around 8" or so, they are definitely going to be rolled in cornmeal

Don't know a lot about catching them but I have had my best luck with worms on the bottom and it is hard to detect a bite. But they are worth it.

Nice catch! Still haven't got one that size. We use mostly crickets. ☺

Shellcrackers are "IMO" pound for pound the best fighting fish in the water. I have caught them on several differnet type baits but nothing beats a fat juicy pink fished on the bottom during late April or early May.
    Birddog,

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.
