Thread: Gills and a True Bass Trifecta

Spring is coming fast in E TN, it’s about time. The bigger Gills are showing up, and I found several this afternoon after supper. 7-8inch fish are common in Cherokee, and this creek usually holds good numbers. A Spade Grub tipped with a Wax worm fooled about 10 hungry Panfish, here are a few pictures of my catch this evening.






If you notice in all my pictures, it is freakin muddy, and man I got covered in this slimy lake bottom sludge this evening. Shoes, pants, hands, tackle bag and rod and reel all painted with brown mud.


It all washes out though. I did finish the True (Temperate) Bass Trifecta tonight with the catch of a Cherokee Bass, which is the name of a Striped Bass and White Bass Hybrid.



She appeared gravid, definitely hungry, and hard pulling for certain. The first picture shows the divided Tooth Patch, not found in the White Bass. Here are the other two true Bass I caught earlier in the week, and when you compare all three fish the differences are evident.

All fish were released and yes I did clean that mud off the rod and reel and me when I got home.

You had a good day, even with the mud. And I remember, it is a sticky mess. Maybe some bear paw snowshoes to keep you from sinking in the mud. Hard fighting fish.

That’s kind of how our banks are usually... muck boots were my best purchase several years ago!

we call em hybrids here and they are some tear up your tackle fighting fish for sure .
years ago we were crappie jigging and my bud hung one and his reel quit screaming when he ran out of line on the spool
the only reason we knew later what just spooled and schooled him was I hung one at that spot and the same thing happened to me except I didn't run out of line before I finally got it to the boat .
at around 20 inches or better they are some never quit pulling super hard fish for sure .

Nice fish, and read. Sometimes the mud is half the fun... Enjoy, and looks like that there spot is gonna be real hot too...
