Well, some friends and I are going fishing at a very small local private pond at about 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning, and it will be about 33-50 degrees. I'm having problems deciding what I could use for lures. I prefer spinnerbaits, so what color should they be? When it's warm weather I can really clean up on yellow rooster tails, but I'm not sure what would be good in these conditions, considering I've never fished there while it's this cold. The pond is about 6 1/2 feet deep. It's been in the 60-80 degree range lately, so this is more like a cold-front than a normal temperature. Also, what would be a good reeling technique? I know these questions are a bit "noobish," but I'm really needing some help, since I don't want to take my friends out and get skunked. The pond is about 70x35 yards, if that makes a difference.

Live Bait (local to water you're fishing) Free line, 2# Vanish, no float, no wt.,
if you need casting distance use an ice cube, if you use the ice cube prep it with very small pieces of the same bait you will be using (if it's legal where you live). Be patient, cold fronts can be tough. Use the water from the place you are fishing, never tap or bottled water.
This thread doesn't really mean much now, since my broke friends and I bit the bullet and bought two boxes of night crawlers. :D
I bought one regular box of Canadian night crawlers and one box that Miss Massie showed me that had Evergreen night crawlers, which are green. I'd never seen the green ones, but she told me people had told her good things.
Thanks for all of the replies, though. By the way, should I fish it under a float, or just tightline on the bottom?

I always use a float. I wouldn't use anything heavier than 4# line (2# much better.) And I wouldn't use the whole crawler -- just pinch off a 1" piece. Fish it stationary or move it very slowly.
Yeah, I've already cut up the worms, thanks for the suggestions.

Have a great weekend.
I'm jealous, my pond is still ice covered.
curious about the ice cube thing, how about some details?
I can only wish to be as good as my dog thinks I am

I'll start a new thread about it... I think it's a brilliant idea!!! Ice Sinkers, guess they'd be Casting Floaters, Ice Casters, donno?
I have a jig with a face like this!
