What to take fishing tomorrow?

What should I be taking tomorrow to fish? I am heading to a couple small ponds, and possibly to the river. The ponds hold bluegill, bass and catfish, the river has a little of everything. I am taking the kids, so I am looking for enough action to keep them interested, as opposed to finding the big fish. Should I look at live bait, jigs, or something else? Fast retrieve or stationary under a bobber? Color selection? Sorry for all the questions, but I really want to show them a good time....

Hey man Im trying to get ready myself spring break ya know. If I was fishing ponds id use some crickets and maybe some minnows. Grub or mealy worms work great in ponds but wether you can get some. But for the kidsd Id opt for some crickets for sure have fun and good luck
