I generally throw the same thing at them as I do crappie, which is 1/32 (#6) and 1/16 (#4) oz jigs. Mostly 1/32. Tubes from 1.5 to 2 inches, sliders, hot grubs (2"), BGBS, etc. Slider head (1??) or open jig. Not doubting anyone on the smaller is better, this is just what I throw. Don't seem to have any problem sticking bream. What I'm throwing can't be more than a small minnow would be. I agree, their mouth gets bigger than you might think.
Thanks for the input guys, I have robjohnson making me a 1/32 crawfish style jig and see if that'll bust some lips or not.

i'm a 1/64 trout magnet guy myself when im targeting them alone but i've caught plenty on a 1/16 cb slider while crappie fishing. some of the jig tieing guys on this forum can make some awesome brim jigs. i do recommend staying with darker colors like brown, rust, or a dark orange.
I totally agree lighter is better in most situations . When this occurs which is rare where I fish . The use of a black gnat and a 4/5 wt. fly rod is my weapon of choice . a 1/32 is the heaviest jig that I cast on an ultra-lite since I use no floats unless live bait is used . Any faster fall will kill the red ear bite but bluegill bite seems to care less . When jigging 1/100 (bass pro shop/white river )fished with a #3 split shot 8-10 inches above the jig is awesome in brush tops . Fishing applications dictate choice of tackle and method . It's all good . :biggrin

Black or black and white Leland Lures Popeye jig in 1/64 oz. with a glo nibble will catch them year round. I have also started using their 2lb. SOS line and am 100% sold that the smaller line will get more bites. It is some tough line and a blast to to fish on an ultralight rig.
