I have the wife hold the spool and be sure that it comes off the spool in the same direction it goes onto the reel. The spools are different size so there is really no fool proof way to do it perfect but this creates less issues. I've done it this way for a long time and some line still wants to act up, so then I get a small sinker and while the trolling motor is going, let out most or all of the line. When it comes back on, it's under tension and has had the chance to untwist. Best I can offer. And if you use a spray you need to make sure that it doesn't have adverse reactions with the line. everything in a spray can has a carrier that evaporates after exposure to the air, and some might degrade the line. Just test it first or use something like reel magic that's designed for this.
