    Default Hook Disgorger?

Several years ago I went fishing with a fellow that had a dowel rod, a short piece that when a bream swallowed the hook, you stuck this in it's mouth. Held the line a spinned the fish. Hook came right out. Anybody heard of something like this and know where one can be found?

I've been using them for twenty years. Unfortunately, they're not easy to come by here in the US. (They're common in the rest of the world).

When my supply got low last year, I ordered a bunch off Amazon. Ebay will also have them. Just search for "disgorger" or "hook disgorger".

Last year, I posted a video on how to use one. I'm on my phone now and can't link to it, but it's called "using a disgorger for deep-hooked fish".

#1 =take a" bic" ink pen . #2 remove ink tube and roller assembly . #3 cut a notch (1/4 inch or less, v-shaped)in the pen clear casing to slide down the line to the hook. This will allow you to be able to dislodge hook by pushing downward .

If memory serves me correctly, this was about a 3/8 to 1/2 inch of wooden dowel rod, no notches buy had a handle added about an inch square with a leather string through the handle. You wrapped your Lin around it, held the line taunt with the finger and spun the fish around. I looked on eBay and Amazon but didn't see anything like this.

Mr Crappie has one made by Buck Knives. Wally sent me one, very nice. You can sharpen your knife or hooks with it too. I use it all the time, I really like it.

    1) Go to Amazon

    2) Search for "disgorger"

    3) The first thing that pops up is a set of ten disgorgers from "Sam's Fishing" for $5. That's what I ordered last year and what I've been using for 20 years.

Forget the "spin", though. Watch the video I mentioned for how to use.

A friend showed me many years ago how to go behind the gill plate, grab the line or the hook, pull downward and push the hook upward out of the fishes mouth. I still use this technique today.

I use a chopstick with a notch cut in the end. If it flys out of the boat I just grab a little dead stick from the nearby trees and use it. If it's to deep and the fish won't survive, I'll just cut my line and get my jig back when I clean em
