Pupa are good bait. In England, you can buy maggot pupa (called "casters") by the gallon.

Well this may sound stupid, but she never wants to use the pupa because they look and feel "weird" to her even though I always out fish by at least 3 to 1.But yesterday was so dramatic that I had to post it.
In reality I caught over 30, but I was using two rods with one just laying on the ground, and it was catching just as many as the one in my hand.
