We call 'em "Teenage Mutant Ninja Sunfish". Oneida Lake is the only place I've ever caught a pumkinseed even close to this big. We don't get them in the shallows like I'm used to either. We get them dragging worm harnesses out mid-lake or around the islands in 15 -30 FOW. We caught probably 20 yesterday while walleye fishing - and they have nice meaty fillets.
The ones we got yesterday were full of eggs, so gonna say they're not spawning yet.
Yea Joe...I usually drag a sinker/hook and worm just for the sunnies while jigging for walleye
