I tried fishing the trees Memorial Day weekend without much luck and the bugs and skeeters about carried me away anywhere within 100 yards of the shore. Going again this weekend. What's the secret there to not being eaten alive? I had on four different repellents and they just seemed to crave eating Deet!

Nice video! I just got back yesterday after a week trip there, I love it down there, although the weather didn't cooperate we had a decent trip. Caught some nice crappie in the trees and many big bull bluegill. We will be back, and hopefully less rain! The secret to not getting eaten alive is what is biting is buffalo gnats, we have had them here for years, buy some cheap vanilla body spray add one teaspoon of vanilla and one teaspoon of peppermint extract and spray it on you, I promise they will leave you alone. At night its mosquitos use the deet. It works for us and unfortunately until it gets hot and dry the gnats will be around.

Yep the gnats were very aggravating and kept flying into my ears. The Deet sprays did a decent job on the skeeters but like you said had little if any affect on the other critters. Thanks for the recipe, I will give that a try.

Never really had a bad bug problem over there. Takes about 2 hours to get over there so we usually fish on up in day till later and not many problems. Might try a Thermacell in the boat if fishing slowly around the trees. I like it when the bugs start hatching out, I think people call them woolies, and usually if there are bugs there the fish will be in the area as well. Even though I live in AR and we have some great fishing here, two of my favorite fishing holes are in TN with Reelfoot and the Pickwick tailwaters, like them both and the fishing opportunities at each one.
