As I am filling in for another angler and putting up daily fishing quotes on another board for a few days until Oct. 2, I thought I would put a few of them here also for you to read.
"WHITE AND BLACK CRAPPIE
"White perch" are second only to the largemouth in popularity. They
thrive in large impoundments but tend to be smaller in pond habitat.
While this schooling fish lacks fighting qualities, he is delicious on
the table. They stay deep nearly all the time and rarely rise to a
dry. The only trick to crappie fishing is locating them ---- once
found they are easily caught on most any sinking streamer or minijig.
They have, however, saved many a day for me when the bass and bluegill
refuse to cooperate.
The black crappie is more common in farm ponds and considerably more
gamey. They will frequently take a top water offering and seem more
inclined to feed on insects than are their larger cousins. Not as
prolific as the white crappie, they are less destructive of bass and
bream populations and a far better choice for farm-pond stocking. The
black crappie prefers heavily vegetated areas and I have taken
two-pound individuals from a local pond that's entirely covered with
lily pads. They are still quite gullible and easily caught, however
---- real dunces compared to the bream species."

If they are easy to catch then I am one poor fisherman.

Thanks, Dave. I'm glad folks like it. Makes me feel like its helping folks sort out what to do to get started and maybe take some of the confusion out of fly angling for bream.
