Gills are supposed to have bars like that. I have never seen any that visible but they are supposed to be there. I think its a regular gill. It may be the perfect water to bring out the color of the fish. Can you post some pics of other types fish from the lake? If they look diff then yoh know its just the water thats making the color come out so good. Very cool though, i would agree with the hybrid theory but those bars are supposed to be there, they just pop out more. I dont know of any other type fish a gill can cross bred with to make them look like that. I know yellow perch have black bars as well but im pretty sure they cannot cross with gills. I would like to know what your local freshwater biologist thinks. Awesome gill, mounting material for sure.
