    Default spin/fly rod-bubba rig

I have been taking a backpack and walking to some spots lately, and have found a interesting thing. I have been taking a 8' noodlerod and and a spinning and fly reel with me. I am convenced that when gills are shallow and not real active a fly rod is better. I am looking for a good 4wt flyrod blank 7'6" long. I was thinking of putting a tennessee handle on it with those rings so when useing a fly reel you could mount the reel back and with a spinning reel you could mount it forward. My buddy sean laughs at my bubba rig. A noodle rod with a fly reel on it. I smoked his butt with it when he was fishing trout flies. I was useing a floating wt forward line with a single salmon egg hook with only a berkley gulp maggot on it. It sunk very slowly and got way more bits. I love my bubba rig even if it aint cool or in style. I had rather catch fish than look like a dude in a LLbean catalog.

if your buddy is making fun of something that put a whuppin' on him, nothing wrong with that picture from what I see.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

You can find everything you need for that rod at mudhole. I get my building rod supplies building form them and they are good people to work with.

If you don't mind a shorter, lighter rod, TFO (Temple Forks Outfitters) has a good one. It's a 6' rod made from a 2wt blank. It has a Tennessee handle with the sliding rings. Bass Pro (and others) sell it for about $100. I have one and like it a lot.

People cant stand it when you whip'em. My favorite set up is a 5 wt 9 ft fly rod with a little underspin reel. The fish dont seem to care, and I catch as many 'keepers' from the banks as most of the 'experts'.

Thanks for the replys. I also like the power wiggler from berkley. I have tried the underspin reels but I hold a spinning reel between my pinky and ring finger. To hold a underspin you have to hold it between ring finger and middle finger. O, My buddy Sean wasnt making fun of my rig He was kinda laughing at it, it was more of a I cant believe this, kind of laugh. He is a really good friend. I lost my old fishing partner to tournament fishing a few years ago. I got burnt out on it. Sean has only been fishing for 2 years and he is a fly fisherman. He has never fished with a spinning or casting rod! I found a 7' 4wt flyrod at walmart on clearance for 13 bucks. Cheap shakspeare rod but will serve me well after I put a Tennessee handle on it. Thanks Blackhawk for the info on rod building supply site.
