I fish for anything but bass and the main reason is the fact I do not want to be associated with those that think they are better than everyone else. It seems a good portion of those around here that fish exclusively for bass are much more important than I am.
I like to stick with the relaxed way of fishing, hovering over a brush pile and taking home enough fish to feed a family. I dont need a $40,000 boat and a $50,000 truck to go hang with the big boys. I can take my little boat and my old ford truck out and fish with just my wife and my son and have a great time doing it.

It is the same reason I do not watch or get involved in sports such as football or nascar. I just do not want to be associated with those that act like such fools over something so trivial in the grand scheme of things.
Ill take a day with my wife and my son over all that stuff any day!

If I knew you better I'd say...

I catch crappie becaue I dont wanna waste any of my fishing time on trash fish. But, as you mighta figured out that's meant to just be a joke.:D:D

I say whatever floats your boat but I like catching the numbers of fish I do and believe it or not there are some real trophy crappie out there to be caught too.Thumbs Up Crappie fishing to me is a little more layed back than bass fishing and a little less layed back than catfishing. And I fit right in the middle.:p

Can't say I have done this often, but I love pulling up to weigh-in in my old junky Champion with a box full of hogs. When I do I always lay my junkyard rods on the deck with the most ridiculous lures tied on. I do love to chase me some big Smallmouth but I would rather go incognito and bring home some crappie.

Ok, this is gonna sound real sappy.
I fish for panfish for many reasons. I love the fight, love bringing home a big stringer of fish, like to tie my own flies and want to get into tying my own jig. I even pass up redfish spots (I live 1 mile from the salts) to travel 30 min to fish for bream.
But the main reason I love fishing for Pans is that is what my grandfather fished for almost exclusively. I was 5 when he started taking me out to fish and continued till I got too old for such things to be cool. He is gone now, and I'm 44. It brings me back to being a small boy with no worries about work or bills or paying for the kids braces. Just me and memories of "paw paw". I know, lost my man card on my 2nd post lol.

I like to fish for whatever is biting and enjoy reeling in everything from a 5" wild trout to a 30lb saltwater fish.

I like to catch bass if they are shallow and active... I'm not going to drag a carolina rig all day to catch 3-4 fish. If the bass aren't cooperating for me, I switch gears and go for crappie or perch or brim.

In a way,,I hate to see happen to crappie fishing,,what Ray Scott did for bass fishing..He turned a very pleasureable past time into the run and gun, full speed ahead attitude of todays bass fishermen.

I got a dose of tournament bass fishing early on, and fished with some of the best, some who fished the bass masters classic, great guys, but when the horse power thing got out of hand, I left it,,and never regretted it. Unfortunately I see the same thing happening to "crappie dobbing" as the elite of the bass fishermen call it.

Lets face it, God made crappie for us older men,,a laid back relaxing type of fishing that suits us very well...Now when I can afford to up grade my 90 HP motor for a 115..I'll bve good to go....lol
