One of my favorite places to fish is a public lake in town. Even though they have creel limits posted everywhere, there are a lot of people who keep everything they catch (the limit here is 15 panfish). It's not policed, so some guys go home with buckets and ruin it for the dad and kid who may show up later that day and catch nothing. So, I very rarely take anything home from that certain lake. The rest of the time, I'm in the 8-10 inch range, also.

i met an old lady once that said theres 2 filets on every fish no matter the size. personally ill keep smaller ones untill i start catching bigger ones then the smaller ones go back in the lake. on very rare occasions i end up with a livewell full of 6 to 7 inch giils but most of the time 8inches is the limit

Not certain why anyone would keep a gill less than 8" to filet or a crappie less than 10". I see guys with 7" crappie and all I can think is "Really?"

I have a stricter standard with crappies but the sunnies that I take, we eat. So, I take smaller ones but not the real small ones.

That's what we do. I try to keep 7"+ and tonight we brought home 12, that's enough for 2 people. I haven't kept a limit (25) in Mich. for longer than I can remember..

I keep about 8 inchers plus, for gills and crappie....but then again I prefer to not filet them. I won't even consider fileting until about 10 inches.

hand spread out plus a inch or 2 would be the smallest crappie i'd keep unless the bite was slow, then hand size
