Got out to the lake yesterday
Caught one bass and an even dozen bluegill. The gills are still on the beds, but I managed to get six of them to bite on chartreuse Crappie Nibbles. I put two nibbles on a #8 hook and gently lowered them into the water. I could see the gill down there and they were right up next to the retaining wall I was fishing from. I just slowly moved the nibbles around the bed, and when one of them went for it, I sped up just a bit. I guess I managed to trigger the strike reflex. There were three different beds within a 20 yard span, so after I hooked one and released it, I moved over to a different bed. I rotated among the three beds.
The other six bluegill I took on a 1/16 oz. Rebel Tad Fry
F67 Rebel Tadfry
The bass I got by casting that Tad Fry Straight along the edge of a weed line. After all, I thought, that's where small bait fish are most likely to hang out looking for cover. And if there are bait fish there, there is probably a fish waiting to eat them when they venture forth from the weeds. I cast that lure out and wham! That bass was on it almost instantly. It was about 10" long, I'd guesstimate about 3/4 pound.
The crappie just didn't seem to want to bite. Maybe next weekend I can catch some of them.
All in all, it was a good day.
I love HIM because HE first loved me.
