I thought about starting to make hardwood fishing poles strengthened with lacquer. Supposed to be really strong if you do it right.

Most folks around here swear by the LittLe Jewel's.Too me they're flimsy.I use a 13 and 15' Black Widows, with braided line to fish inside the bonnett beds. They typically hold up well.If I pull the tip out, generally I cut the barb off a hook, glue and wrap with some thread and end up with a stronger pole then initially had.
I've found the Bill Dance crappie series is made for a quill.
Dang Fellas... I grew up in the big city of Natural Bridge, Alabama!!! Looks like we all fished with cane poles in the same area when we were growing up. I am now in the Pensacola Area.

I just splurged for a Temple Forks Outfitter Signature Series 8 foot 2 piece UL paired with a Shimano Stradic CI4 reel. Just used once so far; but I was impressed with how far I could pitch jigs and how well it handled.
Just a good ole cane pole
