where to start

I would like to take my sons bream fishing,but I don't know where to go this time of year.I plan to go to a local county lake of 40 acres.It is basically flat ,about 18 ft. deep at the dam.Can anyone help where to start ,what kind of rig and bait to use?

night crawlers and fish around the edges of the pond..thats what i would do

If there is a slack water /eddy pocket area down below the spillway thats a great place to start, chunk and wind 1/8 jig heads with wax worms, let sink then SLOW RETRIEVE or a hook and bobber for the young ones if the rocks are bad ,,works well for me...

I'm still catching a lot bream shallow in 3-5 FOW. If there is deeper water close by, that's a plus. I've been doing really well with a 1/64 oz black jig tipped with a wax worm. Deep water near the dam has not been producing.

use a slip cork with some wax worms or crickets. keep it simple if your taking a young kid fishing. lil kids arent gonna understand or gonna be patient enough to toss a jig and let it sink, then start reeling. h eprob doesnt even know what a hit feels like on a jig. If your using corks, they go under, there is no doubt when you get a hit. just my opinion.

Techniques so far are fine and will catch fish for you. What I will tell you is to leave your tackle home unless they will be using it. These early trips are important and the focus needs to be on them. It's a ton of fun watching them learn and you'll all remember these trips for years to come. My girls are 25 and 27, seems like last week we were out with the cane pole and crickets. Have fun and tell us how it goes for you.
