caught em in open water, 4ft deep, fishing with grass shrimp. No weight, just a weighted cork, and 3 feet of line out. the breeze would keep the bait drifting and they would nail it. the only problem fishing like this is that you have alot of fish swallow the hook because they can take the bait and you dont know until the cork goes all the way under, which takes longer because there is no weight by the cork.

Get some really sensitive floats, and this problem goes away.

Wow! Nice mess. I've only had one occasion to get into them like that. About 40 years ago my grandpa and I once caught 149 in three hours on fly rods at a university experimental lake. You had to keep every fish you caught and each one had to be weighed and measured. The biologist that had to do the weighing and measuring was not real happy:D That was the night that grandpa taught me how to fillet fish, he sure wasn't gonna do it himself!

We caught them all about 40 feet off of the pads. Alot of the lakes here in florida are covered with pads, they line the entire banks of some lakes. The particular lake i was fishing was like that, pads EVERYWHERE. There is also alot of hydrilla in these lakes and it makes it hard to find bedded bream. The spot i caught all these fish was about 40 feet away from the pads, the pads go about 20 yards out into the water so i was probably fishing 30 to 40 yards off the bank in about 6 fow. We anchored and stayed in the same spot from 7 am to 1 pm. caught over 300 fish. It was awesome, we had about 10 diff ospreys flying around us waiting to get fish that we threw back. Every fish was caught off of grass shrimp.

That is an awesome report. Way to catch a good mess of great eating fish fillets. Get your hot sauce ready. Nice job.
