some time ago i bought a johnson beetle spin at land big fish. its was a 1/16 oz jighead with #0 spinner and orange/black stripe beetle bodies x4 fishing with the spinner was unsuccessful. but with jighead and body i had luck. i caught 3 broiler pumkinseeds, and 1 keeper that i released because i didn't want to clean fish tonight. how does it it work for you?

Yeah i've caught a lot of every kind of fish on those... but especially panfish and bass. Those things are great... I also swap them out with my other soft-bodies as needed too, but the grubs that come with them work great.

They are pretty versatile, but I don't really like them with Gills since they don't chase much other than a few feet.
buy the cajun spin, made by H&H lures I think, in the 1/32 size with 2lb. line they are far better than the johnsons or the betts models. they have a smaller blade, and they just catch fish better, trust me. I like the green body, or black with chart. tip on the tail, or white with red dot. stay with the 1/32 and lite line. caught a 1lb. 4oz. shellcracker a few weeks ago, on the green one.
Sometimes they want that flashing spinner sometimes they dont, it works that way. Usually if they're willing to chase I leave the spinner on but if I'm not catching anything I take the jig off and use just that.
The worst part is when you move to a different area the fish their may want the spinner
Works both ways

A count down and slow retrieve works best for me with small spinners for Sunfish. Cast the lure out and when it hits the water count it down to 5 to start with, then a 2 or 3 quick turns of the reel handle to get the blade spinning and then slow dow as slow as you can turn the reel handle but still feel the blade spinning. Experiment with counting the spinner down, count it down until it hits bottom and then start your retrieve... then decrease your count by 1 the next time, keep doing this until you get bit.
Bright sunny days means bright colored jig bodies, white with the red dot is killer... and yellow can be too. Darker days or late afternoons would mean a green or black.
man i love beetle spins. i dont use them on lakes or big bodies of water though, i use them on creeks and narrow rivers. they are my favorite for catchin red breasts. i like the white with red dot personally, but i just recently found a new color that i killed em on a couple weeks ago, it was called "bullfrog", its deadly! i put a #5 split shot about 4 inches above the beetle spin to increase casting distance and to get it down deeper faster instead of having to wait for the spin to sink. i cast out and by the time i can start reeling the weight already has it in the kill zone for me but you just have to adjust for where you are fishing.

Throw a 1/32 with four pound test and figure the fall as if you are fishing an area that has bottom MOSS you can't let it hit bottom, and on some bodie's of water . Reel Foot Shallow water Basin's. if you are casting a bladed bait as is hard to find small BLADED Bait's in a 1/32 they may not want color but odd's are they do not want it moving?? Then cork the lilttle peckerwood up with a waxie,a see's iffen they want that way? Yes the smaller of the size spin's is best for smaller fish but i like to hang the big CRAPPIE that nock's the snot out of it also! Lil. trick on on a 1/32 " Just bend the hook out , some lake's the gill's and such will not touch a bait that is just a thad bigger then the littlest sun of a gun. you would think they would! Dont forget the POP POP!! And also try slowing down the actoin of the bait, they may want a tube that has something unlike a fast moveing twister tail! I applie color to water clariety clear natural, muddie chartruse.
but that is what work's for me. I do not claim to no it all by no mean,s/and will never,God Bless JOHN!
