Same here. They are off and on right now. Wednesday it was bright and sunny and warm. The gills and specks were on fire. They were sitting right up at the surface in the canals. I put about 200 into the kayak that day. Today it is snowing.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D
was thinking about trying them today just never have fished for them when they aint on the beds.
The bluegills can be just as easy to catch before and after the spawn, if you can find them. I find that prespawn is fairly east to find them. Just look for structure along creek channels in reservoirs or along dropoffs in lakes. Follow them toward the annual spawning areas. The bluegills will use the creek channels and breaks as travel routes to and from spawning areas just like the crappies. The key to if the water is cold, 40s or 50s, keep your presentation subtle and slow. Once you hit the 60 and 70 degree mark you can speed things up a bit. After the spawn search for suspended fish in open water, mainlake points, and edges of deep water weedlines.

I don't put a lot of stock in the bluegill spawn and full moon. I've seen them on the nest two weeks before a full moon.
