I NEVER go under 4lb mono.... just a personal thing... I've seen too many nice bream and crappie break off. I like 4lb mono, suffix tritanium.

Used 2# trilene XL for years till switching to braid. Now use 4# fireline or 5# power pro. Tuff stuff.
Vicious panfish line for me. Good sensativity. Good abrasion resistance. Have landed bass up to 4+ pounds on it with no failure. I usually run 4# but when in very clear shallow water I will run the 2#.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D
