4wgt-7' Loomis flyrod, but when I did fish with a ultralite rod, I always used a 5ft, but only fiberglas, the softer the better.
Redington 9ft,3 wt fly rod blank that was converted into a spinning rod.Super light matched with a Shimano Sustain 1000 and Tectan 5.1 lb test.I've caught cats to 6lbs. and many crappie, gills and trout with this set up.Not my most expensive rod but it always is in the truck whenever I go fishing.
hays, thanks. hopefully over the holidays i may head west. appreciate the offer...rap

Falcon Coastal 7' ML Gulf Spin.Although a salt water rod, the minute I picked it up, I new it was a great crappie rod. Light w/ fast tip and plenty of backbone for those large slabs. It will throw 1/16 oz jigs with ease and precision.
I see a large concensus that are impressed with the St. Croix spinning rods in ML weight. If I had to buy one today, this would be my choice. They're offered in several different price ranges from $70.00 to $240,and the reviews point to the least expensive being the best buy.

i have a few of the st. croix med. lts. and they are great, not only for panfish, but also for live bait or jig fishing for walleyes.
