Good job, wrangler. Look out, Spielberg.
Thank you for the video Wrangler! Im looking forward to more of them. I had been considering making some ice spoons to try out myself and after seeing how easy you make it look I probably will. Now I just need a video of how to fish them [emoji6]. By the way this also coming from another youngin that enjoys your post.[emoji106]

If winter ever ends I’ll make one about painting them. Fishing videos to come in the future.
It’s good to hear from so many juveniles :biggrin
I’m all in on a video of how you fish the spoons!!
It’s not spoon time yet but as soon as it is I’ll do it.
I have started on the video of building a custom fishing rod. I have the first section of the video near finished and should be able to post a link fairly soon.
Finally found time to watch your video. I enjoyed it!!
Is that rosin core solder you used?
Are the blanks willow leaf blades? Or is it actually a different kind of blank?
I have gotten into making my own spoons as well. But, being one that never leaves well enough alone, I had to try making mine out of different blades. My originals were willows, but now I'm using #0 Colorado's. I like them better and talk about small! They're just big enough to tip with a mini Bobby if fishing is really slow. Had pretty good luck so far. I'll try to get a pic or two of the new ones.

It is a rosin core solder. The Lone Stranger showed me how to make them and he uses seperate flux and pure solder. The ice spoons come from Jann’s Netcraft and they are listed simply as ice spoons.
I read a remark on a post some where on CDC that said no one ever post when they don’t catch anything. I suppose for the most part that is true. There are however a few honest fisherman on here and I would fall into that catagory. I’ve been on the water since 9:00 am and so far have not yet had a single strike.
By now the wind is up and I have a long idle back to the ramp. It’s been a long time since I have been skunked so I’m going to try a couple more spots on the way back. I guess I’m stubborn that way.
I posted in my own post about yesterday that I got skunked!!!

Remember the old saying folks... "If your not going to catch fish then stay at the boat ramp" :biggrin Unfortunately I spend to much time at the ramp.
Today’s efforts after a LOT of searching.

I did fish yesterday but did not take pics because I did not clean fish. I have a 110 gallon tank at the house with a coy water pump in it that I sometimes throw crappie in if I don't feel like cleaning fish. I caught 10, 7 of which were legal.
I am tempted to go fishing now even though it is cold.
I know it's cold but I went fishing for a little while anyway. My fishing line kept freezing to my rod and also my reel. It was real cold or maybe reel cold. I stayed 2 hours and proved I could find them on a day like this and then went home. I only caught 5 but it's better than I would have done sitting in front of the fireplace. You know what they say. Crappie fishing isn't for pansies. :fish
Actually it's: "Ice fishing without a shelter isn't for pansies". I once went out with a wind chill of minus 102, according to the radio in Dillon, Montana, immediately caught two burbot, and went home, wondering if my wife was right about me being crazy.
I guess I won’t use that line again.
On the other hand, there may be a crappie corollary: "Float tubing for crappie, when you have to clear a path through the ice to get to open water is not for pansies". My son and I used to fish Hefner by using small logs to clear a path. One time, the ice was too thick to break through with a log, so Bert loaned me a good-sized hammer. It took a lot of work to get out to the tower, and I only got a few crappie. There IS another adage: "Some fishermen are crazy".
By request, a video on rod building. This is just the intro and basic information to get started on a bait casting crappie rod. More to come.

wrangler, you're not exactly Gary Cooper, but that video was great at describing not only what you're doing, but why your technique is better. Keep up the good work.
That’s ok. You are no Roger Ebert either. :biggrin
I realize that it will put the state in a bind as far as crappie population control is concerned but I think I will take a few days off anyway.
:biggrin
Wrangler-it is COLD up here. Enjoy your time off and look forward to warmer temps!
It’s cold here. That’s why I’m not fishing.
