Wow Supply and Demand!
I guess were fortunate only paying $1.49 dz at my bait shop.

Don't think anyone is gonna have to worry about minnows for awhile, the last place to access the lake was Pioneer ramp and today the road to the ramp was barricaded off. Have friends that had camping reservations the 3rd week of June for 2 weeks and they were cancelled and their money refunded so they must be looking at July before they get this mess cleaned up. If we get the rain they are saying the next 5 days, it may not open until labor day if at all.
I’m pretty sure that is the same price the Red barn charged in the past. When your the only show in town, supply and demand certainly rules the day.
Contractors have been in and out of the old Red Barn for a couple of weeks so don’t know if it’s going to sell minnows or be some other business.
At least we have Sooner 20 minutes from me and some small area lakes to fish while Kaw is flooding.
Yes, and in my case a more than a dozen is too many.
If you have any plans to camp on Kaw this summer change them. We got hammered with historic rainfall up here. There is 65,000 cf going out and 120,000 cf coming in this morning. Lake came up 3 ft in 24 hours. Flood pool is at 90 % and climbing. All access to the lake are still closed and will be for a long time. More rain in the forecast. I will be surprised if the campgrounds open by labor day. We are moving to different lakes.
Still catchin them up here George even with the lake still 30 ft high and no boat ramps. Basically unloading in Pioneer parking lot. Caught alot of fish this morning dropping a flicker shad spoon in flooded tree tops just tough to find bigger fish. Had to change the treble hooks on the spoons to #1 light wire single hooks but it still worked well.
a bit off topic but I figure this is the place to ask and get an actual answer since calling around yielded a bunch of "not my area" answers. Any chance someone knows if the atv trails are open down there? Since fishing isn't much of an option anywhere local, trying to find an alternative outlet for outdoor recreation.
Thought I would give everyone something to look at. Had an unbelievable day. Caught close to 100 crappie, sandbass and hybrids pushing jigs tipped with shiners. Had probably 30 to 35 crappie and kept a few. Don't let the high water scare you off, find the shad and the fish are close. Fishing in 10 to 30 fow today from 7 to 15 ft deep. Lake is still 30 ft high but water is clearing up. Water temp is in the low to mid 80s.
Lonnie I was mixing them up. Using teasers and magnum tubes. Wanted a big profile bait. When I found them they were real aggressive. Had 2 and 3 poles down several times. Different today had to set over them with drop shots but still an aggressive bite.
Fishing is pretty good if you get out really early and fish till 11 or so. Gets really hot after that.
Got out early this morning and it was already hot but the fish were biting. Had a limit in 2 hrs. Caught some big fish today 2 plus lbs. Found them on small shad in 12 to 15 fow.
Had a phenomenal day yesterday with my buddy and his daughter Taylor. Caught well over a 100 crappie, sandbass and hybrids.
Tim, i been out of the loop awhile. but that does not look like your old meat boat. new boat?
Yes that's the crappie boat. Took an old friend I used to fish with all the time years ago this morning and we had a good time. We missed way more than we caught talking and laughing about the good old days.
Had a great day with some good friends. Caught alot of fish today with several doubles on drop shots. First time I can remember on some catching a crappie on 1 hook and a sandbass on the other but done that several times. Had some with 2 crappie together and others with 2 sandbass. Water temp is in the mid 80's and clearing up. High water ramp at Osage cove is now open and McFadden ramp down by the dam. Pioneer is still the only lake access on the north end.
I realize most lakes are still high but fishing is great. Managed another limit today. Focus on rocks and standing timber. Great weather for July so get out there and enjoy it. About any species you want to catch is biting.
Kaw is still 12 ft high and they shut all the gates. Ramps at Osage Cove and McFadden Cove on the south end of the lake are open. The main ramp at Pioneer and the dock is open. Sarge Creek, Washunga and Coon Creek are still closed. They are saying another week to 10 days on Sarge and Washunga. Coon Creek is in bad shape they won't give a timeline on it. Lake came back up an inch yesterday. Everyone's guess is they are gonna let OMPA generate it the rest of the way down and if that's the case, it will be another month minimum until it gets close to normal pool. We caught well over a 100 crappie, sandbass and hybrids yesterday. Went through over 12 dozen minnows. Sandbass and hybrids are a lot more aggressive than crappie so you have to weed through them to catch crappie.
I know this is not crappie but needed a change for a day so I went out and drifted some cut bait this morning. Found some big blues. These 3 were all over 30 lbs. Could only keep 1 of them because they were all over 30 inches. Not a lot of bites but when they did hit they were all good fish.
Those are some nice ones!!

Been pretty quiet on here don't know of nobodies fishing because of the heat or everyone stopped posting. Got tired of bluecats so tried the crappie again. Short fish ate us up but caught some good ones once I figured out the location and depth. Caught a ton of short fish pushing jigs but all the bigger fish on the biggest shiners I could find.
Thanks, Tim...beautiful fish! Do you know what ramps are still closed due to flood damage?
Nice job Tim, been baling hay in my part of the country.
Finally done and can get back on the fish!

I have been busy moving my dad, but getting ready to fire up. Going down to fork late in the month. Hope all the good fish in kaw didn't go to keystone.
Not me either. I don't approve of the political bias and the algorithms they are using to control the minds of Americans.
It's a sad situation when a powerful internet agency that is supposed to just provide information is actually an outlet to change the minds of Americans to their political/progressive/socialist way of thinking that will destroy the way of life we now enjoy.
The owners/directors of these internet social media were called before Congress to testify about their attempts to sway the opinions of Americans and they lied.
Whistle blowers have since came out and said the testimony was false. They actually do monitor your data and mine data about you through false book and other social media outlets.
There is not much we can do about it now. The government is in collusion with the major internet providers and your interaction with the social media is allowed because they make a ton of money doing it.
Welcome to the new internet world.
Went and played with the blues today and caught some dandies. Lake is 8 ft above normal and murky to muddy. Water temp running in the low 70's.
Nice cat ! Thank you for posting...
Big fish are moving if you can get through all the juglines. Lake is finally dropping just hoping for no heavy rains the next few days. Haven't seen Kaw at normal pool all year.
Nice fish Tim!
Finally back in this neck of the woods after spending the summer in Colorado in the RV. Hope to get out and do some local fishing. Nothing but the fly rod for me since early summer.
Bad news for yall down south of Wichita. We had heavy rain yesterday and more heavy rain with hail about 0200 this morning.:( Nice cat TimY
Saw Kaw lake was up again, but the fishing is still good. Above and below the dam.
Freezer is full going back to crappie
