Faced some tough conditions the last couple of days. Lake is dropping like a rock, thermocline set up about 10 ft off the bottom and high winds. We still managed to put a few blues in the boat. These Texas folks are a little slow on the trigger and we missed quite a few but they got a little better as the day went on. Filling minnow tank in the garage getting ready for the big switchover.

Well it looks like we are on the way to major flooding again. Lake came up over 2 ft since yesterday evening and going up fast. There is close to 40,000 cf coming in and climbing. We have gotten 7 inches of rain in Kaw City since this started and they are calling for 2 more inches. I would check ahead before I made a trip to Kaw.
The gates at the dam are closed as well to hold back water. They are generating through the hydro and have both rooster tails full open, but no gates.Quote:

Lake is up to 1020 or 10 ft high this morning. They have 6 tainter gates open and are releasing 26,000 cf. There is still 65,000 cf coming in. Coon ramp is closed. Sarge is not far behind.
It's going from bad to worse. Inflow continues to go up. Elevation will be 1025.00 by noon and climbing. Normal pool is 1010.00. They have all gates partially open but only releasing 35,000 cf. Inflow is 75,000 cf and climbing. They can't release any more because of downstream flooding from the Chikaska and Salt Fork rivers. Looks like the campgrounds may go under water again if something don't change quick. I would check ahead if I had any camping reservations this fall. Only ramp that will be open after today will probably be Pioneer or Bear Creek on the north end.
Finally some good news. Inflow has dropped down to the water release level. Looks like lake is gonna peak at 1027.00, 17 ft high if they continue the current release of 37,000 cf. Pioneer ramp is still open but if you decide to go out on the lake, there is a ton of debris all the way down to the main lake so use extreme caution. Not the ones you can see that will get you but the ones you can't under the surface.

Kaw has dropped a foot so that's a plus. Inflow has all but stopped. They are still releasing 36,000 cf so lake will continue to fall. Both Kaw and Keystone are both 15 ft above normal pool. Keystone is releasing 76,000 cf as of today. Campgrounds at Kaw faired pretty good. Water did get over some of the south campsites at Sarge but the north half of the campgrounds are still open. All the ramps on the north end are still barricaded so Pioneer is the only open ramp. Lake should fall a foot a day if they continue the current release rate. Ramps may be accessible by the weekend if the corps remove some debris. Coon will be closed for a while. Parking lot is under water so there will be a lot of debris clean up.
