I caught a bunch of females 2 weeks ago on prespawn pattern but only males this weekend in same pattern.

Due to the crazy warm weather this year, how early does everyone think the spawn will start this spring?

April is a sure bet to be right in the thick of it but can start as early as March and go through the 1st part of May. Crappie spawn in waves. Warmer creeks will spawn out 1st and then main parts of lake last. My local lake in the city water temps in the coves were 45 whereas the mouth of the creek I was in Saturday temps were 52. Fishers had a post on 2/12/17 down south of the Kiamichi river area and temps were 60! Saturday some of the crappie had eggs like this whereas others weren't as far as along. I just pray floods stay away this spring!!!

At Kaw the eggs sacks were small and grey last trip, down south they were better than that 3 weeks ago! One thing about Oklahoma is the huge difference between our northern lakes and southern lakes. The terrain down south often holds away the colder dense air that inundates the rest of the state. Many days this winter I was fishing in 50-60 degrees and McAllister and points north and west were in the 20's and 30's. In my opinion the peak of the spawn is about 6-8 weeks sooner in the South East lakes than it is at Kaw and the other Northern lakes. Its a blessing to be able to start south and work your way up as we get later into the spring. That being said, it seems the weather always messes something up and you have to adjust on the fly.
Spot on Fishers, spot on.
We could sure use a good rain though. I think about everyone in OK could. Keeps them quail birds happy out west and the hay growing here. I'm sure there will be a good run starting in early-mid March. Maybe not super shallow but they will be there just like they were last year and the year before that. With this warm of a Feb., March could be a bear. I'll take the rain, but them yankee boys can keep the ice.
