Default Going back to Old School

While I was out crappie fishing last week I opened my tackle box and had to stop and think a minute on what I was going to use next. After giving it some thought I looked at all 12 of the plastic boxes I had marked from tube baits to curly tails and on and on. In the very back side of the box I had 2 trays marked swim baits and hair jigs so I took them out. Opened the swim bait box and there was every color, size an configuration of baits you could think of. Back in the corner was a swim bait I used for years and had caught 1000's of crappie on in the past. With all the new colors and configurations that has came out over recent years I kinda forgot it. It was crème lures little fishy in gray with a black back and it has been around forever. With the bite slow I decided to try it and the second cast on a 1/16 ounce jig head I caught a big black male crappie. Ended up with several nice fish that afternoon. With all the new technology we have today and every color known to man, it gets pretty confusing at times. I'm sure I try to overthink the fish a lot. Later I opened the hair jig box and noticed a purple jig with a white head that I have caught crappie on since the late 60's. Put it on a 5 1/2 ft rod with a slip cork and caught a few nice fish. Point being it's easy to get caught up in all the technology but don't forget your roots, they still catch fish.
