Where to Fish

I got a boat for Christmas and have been trying to find the Crappie. No luck. I've fish Arcadia and Thunderbird without any success. I live in the western OKC area and Kaw, Keystone and Eufaula is about a two hour drive which would is duable. Any suggestions/recommendations and where to fish. Any other lakes?

I live in SW OKC and fish Thunderbird, Arbuckle, Ft Cobb (some) and RC Longmire (when it's up.) At Thunderbird I usually catch more Saugeye when fishing for Crappie. There are lots of small Crappie there and a few really nice ones. My wife's biggest came from there (2.76 lbs) about 25 years ago on a curly tail jig. That's bigger than my best from anywhere. Honestly, tho', Kaw or Eufaula would be better bets for good Crappie fishing. I go to Eufaula often and plan on more trips to Kaw. I've not fished Keystone except on a Bass tournament back in the 80's. I don't fish Arcadia.

once you learn it, Cobb would be a good lake for your "home" lake. There are decent populations of crappie, bass and saugeye/walleye. You'll have to put some time in, but it's a fair to decent year round fishery within a reasonable distance.

Have you tried Hefner? I haven't fished it in a few years, but used to catch crappie there too...

Chickasha Lake has a reputation for excellent crappie fishing, I lived in Chickasha for a few years but was a bass fisherman back then. But I always heard the BIG crappie stories coming out of that lake. Ft Cobb is also very good, but it's a longer drive.

X2 on chickasha lake has very nice size crappie once you get on them. I have had pretty good sucess out at thunderbird due to it bein right down the road. But I also catch A LOT of short saugeye 12 to 16 inch range. Hefner dam would be a good spot and very close if your in okc

Went to Watonga yesterday. Caught 32. Brought only 5 home and those were questionable if they were big enough. Saw one guy catch one over 14". He was catching a lot of small ones also. Found them about 7' down in about 15 FOW on minnows. Also caught a few trolling with a crank bait.
