Xpress12 you almost need to now where your going its very shallow if you don't stay in the river channel there's some short cuts to river channel going across the lake but you have to now where to run. You can go along the river channel with the gps but make sure you stay in the river channel or you will hit some stumps. I would almost have to show you cut throughs but you can only run them trimmed up and lake has to be normal. Ones you make it out of the lake it's pretty safe to run the river just about anywhere.
Thanks EB. I was trying to gauge how much you liked Wister. Its right up there for me too. Kaw, Wister and Euaula are my favorites. I gave up on Oolagah last winter, I did better on it when I knew zilch about crappie fishing. I may brave the upper end at some point this spring, I have yet to give that part of the water a fair shake.
Met up with faburwell and his wife today, what a great down to earth couple of great people. Today fishing was slow rain has passed through a couple of times. Caught a couple of bluecats and a largemouth bass. My wife an I still have yet to catch a crappie. We spider rigged and fished some of the north area in some of the coves, using several different colors and types of jigs still no luck. Switched over to tighlining with minnows in some coves and along the shallows on the north side without any luck. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
gfortelney - Frank and Robyn are great! He is a good fisherman and will teach you a lot. He and I get together several times/year and always have fun. I know the rain is hurting you, but we sure need the rain down there. Lets here a report tomorrow night.
Nitro12, I too live here on Wister and have been trying to get up the river from Wards landing. I had heard to go up the lake to Victor landing, turn south across the lake towards a large cut in top of the mountain. As you get across the lake (which yesterday water was never more shallow than 8 ft), there is a large stump/tree laying down on the edge of the channel (yesterday was 20 ft depth next to it). You are in line with the east end of a little island on the south bank of the lake.
But from there, I'm stuck. I was going to go put in Potts landing and work backwards when the rain stops. Anyone have any tips or waypoints I could work from?
A few wister fish...10fow ..4-5 ft deep jigs on the channel breaks
That's the right way to go the river is really curvy going that way but you only need to go that way when the the lake is low. You actually head straight out of wards go straight across the lake towards the bank and there will be some trees on your right stay right close to the bank go between the trees and the bank then your actually in the river channel the water is only about 3 to 4 feet deep if you idle threw or go through trimmed up your ok. There's some big rocks out to the right so the closer you stay the bank the better. Going the other way there's actually a few jugs marking the river channel in places. But it's best to run the cut through if the water is normal.
It saves you lots of time running the cut and your in the river pretty quick. From wards to Potts running the cut should only take about 5 minutes. Now getting up in fouche is a different story it's a little tuffer.
I got to get on Wister yesterday evening with a friend of mine I think we ended up with 20 or so! No monsters this time. Lots of rain Saturday night brought the lake up a 1ft or so, they were scattered. EB
