Headed to Tenkiller or the lower illinois this weekend - never been there before. Taking the 3 boys (age 10,5,2) and my wife.
Looking for some advice.
Looking for a cheap camp ground to throw a tent near the water. 26 per night at Marvel is to high for me. Going to be staying 4-5 nights.
Wondering how the fish are.. any advice on fishing.
I have a 16' alluminum bass boat. Should I bring the boat - is the lower illinois water boat friendly?
Thanks. Seth ~ <><

If they are generating from Tenkiller Dam the river can be quite swift. I have manuvered around in it at that time in a 16 foot aluminum boat with an 18HP motor. Have done it several times but the motor is top knotch. It's too dangerous if you loose motor power.
The Camp Ground at Gore landing is pretty good.
If it was me I would put in at the ramp at Webbers Falls and go up to the Illinois and fish there. Not bad there even if they are generating. I think there is camping there as well.
It's going to be hot so I would probably camp at the lake and go swimming with the kids. You could use the boat there to. I like Chicken Creek or Pruitt bay.

I agree with KO...Camp on the lake and use your boat there. Much better swimming and fishing up top.
Webber Falls has a City Park for camping, water and electric, big shade trees, last time I was there it was real reasonable, the boat ramp is right at the camp ground.
You can fish up or down the Arkansas, or south just a little ways on the east side you can go up into Lower Illinois. The water temperature at this time of year will be good fishing from the mouth in.
I can tell you from experience it is going to miserable at night without air conditioning. If all you have is a tent be prepared and keep the kids hydrated. I got sick one year not taking it seriously enough. Woke up in an
ambulance.
Renting a cabin would be much better if you can afford it and there is one open.

Pettie Bay has really nice campgrounds with lots of shade, a play ground for the little ones and 3 nice boat ramps..water and electric at each site..its certainly going to be very hot so take care please..swimming beach also there on the north campground.
Pettie Bay is 4 miles south of the red light at Keys America on hwy 82, turn left and 3 miles then to the gate entrance

If memory serves me correctly you need a trout license on part of the lower illinois. You probably already know that but I would hate for a fellow fisherman to get surprised with a ticket.
You are no longer required to have a trout stamp in Oklahoma any more as of this year. They have included that in with your fishing license now. Hence the price increase this year. Just another way for them to get everyone to pay for those trout and not just the trout fishermen.
Wow, learned something new, thanks for the trout license info. Since I have a lifetime license I didn't realize that. Thanks!!!
