Cedar trees attract and hold more crappie but you will get hung up in them. PVC or stake beds work ok and you don't get hung up in them. A light source that remains on at night will also help.

Be sure to "hang" brush, especially in the corners, and along the front. Hedge (Osage orange) if available.

It can take a long time for algae to grow on PVC. I'd go with cedars or bois d' arc as DenOz said.

Is it best to do this at night? Do the marinas care knowing it happens whether they do or not?

Try some trimmed cedars, just lop off the limbs about 1' and tie them off. You can work jigs up close and the crappie can back up into them....works good here.

Trimmed Persimmon trees works well..abundant around the lake and they last for yrs..limbs are spread out and very easy to work a jig through...Thats all I put in for brush piles on my home lake Tenkiller..place a weight in the middle of the tree for it to lay down or on the bottom for it to stand up..use copper wire to tie it off due to the other metals rusting and losing your tree..but the bottom line is it doesn't matter what you use as long as you use something to attract the bait fish..good luck and let us know how it worked out for you..
