A good friend of mine fished Talala Creek yesterday and told me he caught a 20.5" Crappie! This man's as honest as Abe himself. He didn't take any pics, just fileted the thing. He's in his early 70's and swears by the catch. I told him he should have at least taken it to Tacora to have it weighed as it would surely set the current lake record. I can't imagine what the thing weighed, but I don't think the Black or White Crappie State records even hit over 20". I would have loved to see it. Sigh....

I took a refrigerator to him yesterday evening that was given to me along with some steel parts I fabricated for some fileted stairway handrail clamps to weld up. I asked him if he still had it and he said he took it back to the lake to dump as he always does. I told him he should freeze the carcass and he didn't seem to really care about it. I know the man is telling the truth about the catch. It's the same guy that gave me all the filets a couple of weeks ago. His two main hobbies since he retired is fishing and playing with his welder.

Reaper - That fish was one for the wall.
20" crappie would definitey be a whopper. Never seen one out of Oologah, but have no doubt they're there. No matter the pressure, that lake area continues to produce some vey nice fish every year.

I used to own a tape measure like that......... hahahaha.:D

I agree Oolagah has big crappie and is well overdue to produce a 3 + pounder. What I wonder is why is it the 70 year old fisherman always catch them? I really dont want to wait that long!
"Never Fry Bacon Naked"
The man lives two miles from the ramp. He fishes almost everyday and stays awhile when he goes. He strictly uses a non painted 3/16 oz jig with an orange and chartruese tube jig scented with salt. When I go with him, we usually fight over who has to keep the fish. The last time I went out with him, I used my home spun jigs vs. his salt jigs. He put 27 in the livewell and I caught 5 small fish. He literally pwned me that day.

Yeah that would truly be a barn door sized Crappie. To bad there are no pics.
He called me today around noon and said he'd already caught and cleaned a limit and was heading back cause it was such a nice day. I want to retire...
