Thread: heading to the lake

Josh, You probably need to target clearer water and that end of the lake is still red. E.B. just gave a good report on tightlining minnows {Kentucky rig} @ Porum landing / Dutchess Creek in standing timber. You can do the same in Longtown up in the timber it's gin clear and the sea-do's wont be up there. Your last option is goin south to a creek and fishing laydowns and such. Bridges I would consider a last option...to many boats, whichever you try good fishin!

If you are in that area I would at least give the I-40 rip rap a try. Don't be afraid to try even shallower there. With the water being stained EB caught them there in 4-7 fow last week. I would try both jigs and minnows and if you have any crankbaits I would try them. I would parallel down the rip-rap in a zig-zap pattern from 4-7 feet. If they aren't in that depth keep moving deeper. Let us know how you do.

I'd second Odie's suggestion. If you're at Lotawatah, you might as well give i-four-oh a shot. There's no telling what you'll catch!

The red water affects us more than the fish I think. Of course, you do have to hit them on the head with the bait, but it's not so bad because the discolored water generally means they'll be shallower. Scary shallow!

If you do some night fishing, tie up to the north pillar of the 69 bridge. It always served me well when I lived over there. If you happen to be there Sunday night, watching the fireworks at Eufaula cove from your boat is a pretty neat experience. Just dont be in a hurry to get off the water......millions of boats all trying to load at the same time...that also is a neat experience to sit and watch!!

Saw a couple boats tied up and pulling fish from that pillar last Saturday night. They had floating lights out, that's how I was able to see the fish.

Take lots of bumpers to protect the boat and even more patience and tolerance cause the crazies will be out in full force washing you up against the bridge.
Ocassionally the state trooper will set up there and then most everyone plays nicer.
