    Default Atoka Lake

Anyone ever fish Atoka Lake? When I was a kid I know it had a good amount of standing timber and big crappie. I live in Kansas now but I visit my Dad on Eufaula Lake several times a year and was thinking about dragging the boat to Atoka sometime on one of my Okieland visits.

I haven't been on Atoka in over 25 years any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Fished the buck brush at Fred's fish camp from the Yak (not enough time to launch the boat) three weeks ago for a about an hour and a half and caught eight large males. I have some friends that fish mill creek (I think it is Mill Creek) on the west side of the lake and they caught fish till they were sick of it last spring, but I haven't heard anything from them this year. The lake has been historically low, but is pretty much full this year as they are working on equipment up at Stanley Draper in OKC. Atoka is two hours south for me and it's hard to drive right by Eufaula to go to Atoka. When I was there three weeks ago, I talked to two gentlemen who had limited out in 15-18 fow. Not sure what stage they would be in now. I would suspect it is alot like Eufaula some are finished and migrating to deeper water while others are just getting going. My freinds say that they catch more crappie on brown or motor oil curl tail grubs (the large ones i think they are three inch). The fish I caught were all on 3 inch pumk seed and chart yum bever tails.
