Most of us have had a hard time at Hefner all year. I fish from the bank about 90% of the time and have had to resort to going to other lakes to find crappie this year. Keep us advised if you do any good and welcome to crappie.com

I am a shore fisherman. I am having a hard time finding consistent places to fish for crappie at Lakes Hefner and Overholser. I'm afraid I missed the crappie spawning period. I went out (on 4/25 at approx. 6:30 after work) to the east side of Overholser and caught a whopping 2 crappie. I was using both white and yellow curly tails approximately 2 feet deep. Any suggestions for where or what I should try?

Your in one of the right places from the dam north to 23rd street in 2 to 4 feet in the rocks , doodle sock with a 9 or 10 foot rod hitting all the nooks and cranies , I have never done good with plastics I always tie my own and have always done well with pink and black, pink and chart. or pink and white . horseshoe bend is also a good place for socking , I advise going to see Brandon Jones at brandons bait and tackle on Macarther and britton behind 7-11 , he ties and sells jigs like the kind I tie they are still some in the rocks but hit them early in the day.
Here is Carls web site for his hand tied jigs. Lightninstrikejigs Hefner Bait and Tackle 9140 N MacAthur Oklahoma City

Thanks for the response. I fished yesterday evening below the dam and caught about 10-12 smaller sized crappie using live minnows. However, if I varied about 3 feet in any direction of that spot, I didn't even get a nibble. I think using some hand tied jigs will help and I'll try it. Thanks again.
I don't think you missed anything at hefner...I have found that the crappie there are the last to spawn out of all the lakes I fish....hang in there...ill keep you advised
I used to fish near the police dock at Hefner, by the east wharf and the park. I used to catch all kinds of species there. Everything from walleye to crappie to bass to bluegill. I have yet to try this year. Anyone else fish that recently?
I went just north of that about a week ago and got nothing
I was able to get out to Hefner last night with a buddy who wanted to chase walleye. No eyes for us but I did see some people in one of my good crappie spots and they didn't move for over 2 hours. Either they were catching fish or they have alot more patients than I do.
I went fishing at Lake Overholser today. Caught 2 10 inch crappies. Good eatin'! Also caught a 21" Hybrid Bass and a few misc. fish. Crappies were caught on minnows just north of the Dam on the east side(rocks). Both crappie had lots of eggs inside.
