Default Rumor! New State record Crappie

Yesterday I had a call from a man from Amarillo TX, he was wanting to book a trip for Thursday and I told him that I was busy that day. Anyway we got to talking and he ask me if I had heard that the new state record crappie had been broken and I said that I hadn't heard that, him and his buddies were fishing down at lake Wister,OK since monday and his boat motor had broken down and he was stuck fishing from the bank. He told me that there had been 5lb 1oz crappie caught either Monday or Tuesday but didn't know if it was true. But he had told me he knew that there was a 4lb.8oz crappie caught below the dam at Wister and didnt know if the 5lber came from the same place or not! He also said that this fish was 21 inches long. Has anyone heard about this? If you have please share? EB

I haven't heard about it, but it wouldn't surprise me. I used to fish Wister alot about 12 years ago when I lived N of Muldrow. I've often said it had Crappie every bit as good as Eufaula. I had friends who would spend their entire 2 week vacation camping out there in April.

Just another one of those overlooked Oklahoma Crappie factories.

WOW!That is a humpback Slab right there! I've heard alot of stories of big crappie below that dam, I guess there's some good habitat to grow them big.

Talked to a guy today who said he knew the man that caught the record fish and he said it weighed 5lbs 1oz, but no one has produced a photo yet????? The guy I talked to was the 'catchers' boss and said he called in sick the next two days to keep fishing!
