I was on Hefner this week and noticed the same. And it appears that most quit buying permits in the same year. This makes me wonder if the City went to some different system of collecting permit money from those who rent slips ???? Only thing else I can think of, cause the police house is right there in that boat harbor.

There's a bunch of sailboats in those slips, I wonder what the lake would look like if they were all sailing at the same time ? :D

Fishermen are the only users of OKC parks and recreation that have to pay our own way.

If they close the hatchery, I won't buy another permit or boat permit. I'm done with it. Its the most unfair , unjust thing I've ever seen. There is absolutely no justification to charge for a permit without spending money to maintain or improve the fishing.

But I will say this also, that from what I hear, the only way the hatchery remains open is if they hear from enough fishermen. If the fishermen don't speak up, it will be their fault as much as Whisenhunt and the Council.

There comes a time when fishermen have to speak up and quit allowing themselves to get pushed around.
    And that concern was warranted

    Fishing, boating fees may rise

The Oklahoma City Fish and Game Commission voted Monday to recommend raising daily fishing permits from $3 to $4 and annual fishing permits from $15 to $18.

Daily city boating permits would increase from $5 to $7 and annual boating permits would rise from $25 to $32.50.

The proposed fees must be approved by the Oklahoma City Council. The proposed fee hike is the result of keeping the H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery open.

Budget cuts threatened to close the hatchery earlier this summer. The city council spared the hatchery but requested fishing and boating fees be raised to help pay for it.

Hey, at least they did not close the hatchery.

But I would not get your hopes up on seeing any improvements to OKC fishing, it will just be the samo samo, and we get to pay more for it.

    Whooopeee ..............we won !!!

Lets go to Toby Keiths and have a victory party !!

I would feel better about this if it was earmarked in a fund for fishing, but as I said above, that'll be the day.

And how did they come up with $32.50 ............. why the 50 cents ? Even money is easier to work with

............PERMIT UPDATE...............I was really glad to see the hatchery remain open, but of course the fisherman would have to flip the bill with the raising of permit prices....The city claimed that there was not enough income from the purchase of permits to keep it open..and it would cost more for a boat permit....This of course raised opposition from the sailboat owners who thought that would not be fair. ... and no wonder, I was fishing around the west side slips and noticed that most of the sailboats did not even have a permit on them and some had stickers dating back to 2007....Last Friday while trying to hide from the wind...I decided to head back around the west slips to chase sand bass.....I was very surprised to see that just about every boat on the west side now has permits on them....most were purchased in April......I would just like to thank those owners for bringing their boats back to date and hopefully the extra income will keep the hatchery open for years to come!!!!
