Stink - I tried to call you today to visit but now I know why you didn't answer. You had your hands full with the cabinets. Everything looks great. I know you are tired of laboring on this project but it should be complete within 30 days I expect.
Thanks all for your compliments and encouragement. Inspired me and I've gotten more done today. Should be finished with the kitchen and cabinets by this coming Saturday.
Sorry I missed your call George, but right now its hard to catch me when I'm not tied up with the work going on here. Later after I'm done, I'll have time to visit folks on the phone.
I'll post some more pictures as I get more done, thanks again.:)
My son came over and helped me finish the cabinets Friday around noon and here are the pictures of the completed kitchen:

I want to say a special thanks to my son for helping me complete this job. Wonderful son and even my grandson kicked in and helped!
I'll be installing a gas (propane) range pretty soon and a combination microwave/vent hood over the stove.
Right now I'm just happy to be finished with the cabinets and now I can unpack all my kitchen stuff that has been stored for (3) years.
For all intents and purposes, the house is finished except for some oak trim around the tiled area for the wood stove. Still have some railing to put up on the deck, but I will wait to do that until after I've got my furniture moved in.
Then the fun begins........ I need to start cleaning up the mess I've made outside over the last year or so and get this place looking ok. Almost embarrassed to have anyone over for all the junk cluttered up around the place.
Thanks for looking. :)
Looks GREAT!!
Are you moving in full time now? Looking good Stink.:)
That is an awsome kitchen Stink...you got plenty of cabinets and sounds like you have a great son and grandson.
Beautiful kitchen! I especially love that corner cabinet. Normally there's too much space wasted in the corner, but that cabinet should take care of that problem!
Thanks Don, RR and SW, appreciate your compliments. Yours too Gab and wanted to tell you I moved in last May once it was liveable. Been really dusty and hard to keep stuff clean, but it was better than living in the small building (my 10x16 workshop) which I did for almost a year.
I've been going through some of the boxes I have had stored and its almost like Christmas all over, finding things I forgot I owned, lol.
Any of you guys happen to be in the area, sure hope you let me know so I can put on a fresh pot of coffee and have you drop by. Thanks again for looking and your gracious comments.:)
Looking great Stink! I will have to drop by next time I come south to fish.
Odie
Wow, the kitchen is beautiful! You did a great job on it, Stink! Are those laminate floors?
Thanks for the nice compliment and yes Ma'am, those are laminated flooring.
My next chore is to install gas pipe under the house to the kitchen for my stove. Been a little chilly lately and I'm still using the ol handy hotplate to cook upon.
Sure looking forward to you and your better half getting down in the area Patti, you're gonna love living at Lake Eufaula. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a quick sell of your current home.:)
Wow....the kitchen turned out great.
One of the things I've been looking forward to is having a place for the grandkids to sleep when they come over. I found these bunkbeds at a furniture place down in Talihina last summer, but they didn't take credit cards and I didn't have enough cash or my check book with me.
I drove down yesterday and picked up the bunkbeds I wanted, got em home and put in the utility room. Attachment 53663
Some history goes with the yellow blanket on top and the old quilt down below.
I've had the yellow blanket since 1974 and used it when I drove cross-country trucks for Lee Way Motor Freight out of OKC. That ol yellow blanket has traveled right at one million miles and kept me warm many nights.
The quilt was given to me by my wife and since she is deceased, it has a special place in my heart. It's tattered and leaks a bit of cotton occasionally, but I'm kind of a tattered ol toot myself, so it does fine for me.
Next week I will be picking up some furniture and hanging some pictures, putting up what-nots, etc.... etc....
I'll be trying to take a few pictures as I get my new home fixed up. Thanks for looking and I'm looking forward to seeing some of you guys come by if you have time during out next "get-together". I'll brew up some fresh coffee when you come by.:)
Sounds like a deal. Love to see your place when it is finished. You really have accomplished something that not many would even tackle. Great job, Stink.
I had to order the above the range micro/vent hood and it came in last Friday. Got it put up today and wanted to share this picture of my finished kitchen.

I haven't vented it through the wall yet, left it in re-circulation mode for the time being. Before summer hits, I will install the vent kit and direct that hot air outside along with the sweet fragrance of crappie filets!:D
Oh, by the way, has anyone seen the new microwaves that don't use a turntable? This rascal has a different set-up in that it uses a rectangular tray that moves around.........back and forth, and I guess gives the same effect as a turntable, but without the food bumping up against the inside wall of the microwave oven. Pretty cool huh!
Stink that is one nice Valentines day gift to yourself. Your place is looking mighty fine.
Looks great Stink, You can give me some pointers on mounting ours when we get ready to upgrade the kitchen. Want us to bring the crappie?
Looking good guy!
Thanks all, I appreciate your compliments and good will.:)
I started the foundation on the cabin in August of 2009 and today I can say I am finished.Hands Clapping
I built the last 16 feet of railing for the deck and got that installed Monday, had some base trim inside to do and a few other odds and ends that needed completion.
Here's a picture of the cabin after all is done:

So, the building of the cabin is over, now I will start cleaning up the mess and doing some landscaping. Lotsa stuff needs to be hauled off and bits of this and that need to be picked up. Stuff you leave laying somewhere with intentions of picking up later, but find yourself so tired at the end of the day you decide it can wait til tomorrow, then it is forgotten because it blends in with the rest of the junk laying around.
Looking back over the last two years I can say this has been fun, but a real challenge and at times it strained me beyond compare. Not sure what I was thinking when I decided to build this myself, but I won't be doing this again.
I turn 60 in November and the way I have it figured, this cabin should last me from here on out.
Finally, in closing, I want to say a great big thank you to my friends here in the forum that always had a compliment to share, encouraging words, and the welcomed pat on the back when the ol back was aching like the dickens.
So, thanks again, and the cabin on the lake project is done.:D
Great job Stink, Have followed you along on your project since being on the board.built our house a few years ago and did quite a bit of work ourselvs so I know how stressful it can get. You really have something to be proud of there. My Momlives outside McAlester so maybe I'll get a chance to come by this summer anddrinka cup with you.
Great work, thank you for taking the time to share, was interesting.
Wow!!!Stink Wow!!! my hats off to you and your home. It is probably my self-satisfying doing it yourself than having someone build it for ya. It is a job well done, i am totally jealous and envious of the time you spent to do that. Again Great Job Stinkfinger!
Stink, that looks great! You've done a great job. I enjoyed following along as you built it.
It won't be any time before you'll be wanting to start another project! Say, how about a Guest house there?? Thumbs Up
Good job Stink!! Now you can kick back and I will grill you some crappie on the half shell. MMM,mmm, good.

You done a GREAT job Stink. I wish you many more great years to enjoy living in it. Happy fishing, RR
Stink, It really is a beautiful cabin and you did a terrific job. I am sure you are proud of what you accomplished for I know I would be. It was so interesting to see your progress over a long period of time. I am really impressed by your knowledge in building this lovely home for yourself. Congratulations fellow.
Cabin looks great, now you can concentrate on more important things like Crappie fishing.
Thanks again folks, it means a lot to me when you grace this post with your compliments.
Yes Kdlong, that is the name of the furniture store in Talihina; Mansour
It's bad i was raised there and couldn't remember how to spell it. The people that started the store were german imagrants. Him and his sister both opened stores there. My mom worked for his sister when i was little. Man i'm jealous of that cabin the only thing its in the wrong part of the country it needs to be at the foot of the kiamichi mountains. ( hehe) i love it stink kick back and enjoy the quiet life you deserve it.
During my build of this cabin always present in my mind was when my family could come over and spend time here with me at the lake. I had most of them over during Memorial Day Weekend and here's a picture of part of my clan:
Attachment 63189
My oldest son, the boy that helped me so much during the build, had to leave Saturday morning for a previous commitment and is not in the picture, nor his wife and my oldest granddaughter.
We all had a grand time sitting around the campfire, fishing, telling stories, and sharing time together. Every bit of work with the sweat and tears were worth it when I got to have my loved ones over.
Just wanted to share this with my online family here in the forum, thanks for looking.:)
good looking family. glade everyone got to have a good time.
Jim a picture like that makes the heart smile. Nothing more wonderful than having the kids around. Oh and by the way them are some good looking babys, no wonder your smile is so dang big, we all know now. WONDERFUL PICTURE JIM. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
That picture tells a wonderful story and I know it was all worth it. We too had a great time with family over the holiday at our Texas home. Something about family that makes you feel wonderful. Bet they are all proud of you...I am.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate your feedback. Funny thing, the little girl in the dark blue blouse is a cousin to my granddaughter by marriage and before she left, I was "Grandpa Jimmy" to her too.......... gotta love de kids.
