First time in six years since I have been on Oologah fishing for crappie. I tried the core piles in Blue Creek, but only caught a couple small one's and missed a couple thumps also. Fished from 7-11am and then went graphing and checking out the lake. I grew up fishing the river and Winganon area, but haven't lived close for 12 years until a couple of weeks ago or fished for crappie since then for that matter. Look forward to meeting some of you on the water. Met one nice man and his grandson at the ramp this morning.

Odie what made you go up to Big Creek and the river? Have you ever got into them really good on the timber up there this time of year? I know Brian kills em on the timber in Eufaula this time of year, was that one of the reasons? Just curious... you guys killed em on the south end the day before.

Fished Saturday with a couple of friends from 6:00 to 10:00 and caught 25 keepers. Caught most of the fish in 16 to 17ft and most of the fish were close to bottom. Didn't catch one single fish on a jig today. Not sure why, must have been using the wrong colors. Caught fish drop shotting and tight lining. Sure had a good time and we caught some nice fish too. Didn't get a chance to take any pictures, I let my buddies take the fish home. Should've taken my camera with me.

Went to the O on Saturday, the weather was crazy hot but we were catch fish so it didn't matter. Had to jump in and cool off and then were were good to go again! We caught close 25 keepers all over 10 inches with alot of 9 inchers that we threw back. We caught about 1/2 on jigs and 1/2 on minnows in 10ft to 15ft of water. The jigs we used were Bobby G's in "monkey milk" and "bluegrass" also caught some on Creme lil' fishies. Has anyone noticed the fish seem to be holding a little shallower this summer than last year here on Oologah? You would think it would be the opposite with the weather being so hot...dunno.

Kevin, we just wanted to try something different. We wanted to see if they were in the creeks on Oologah, like they are on Eufaula in the summer. Obviously they were not that day. I may try it again one day, not with a client in the boat, LOL!!! I think they can be caught the next 2-3 months on the brush pile pattern unless the lake has a sudden rise. I will definately go back to the brush my next time out.

I think the thermocline is a little higher up in the water column this year. Last time I was out it was showing 14' on my sonar. They won't go below that for any length of time. I have caught cats on jugs below that but if you don't get them off of the line quick they die. This is just my quess.

I went fishing with Brian 2 summers ago and we killed them in Coale Creek on the 26th of June. I came back to Oologah the next weekend and went to Spencer Creek and caught several big crappie, not the numbers but really nice size. I kept doing that all summer that year but haven't been able to do it since. Only tried it once this year, might try Spencer one more time. It's a lot of fun to hunt the the biguns when it's working.
