The crappie are schooled up in nice little pods right now. I saw lots of them while starring at my graph for hours yesterday, laying on channel ledges, 25 fow. I will post some pics tomorrow of my weekend. I did not do as good as odie though. I tried to get him to follow me out of that flat water, and he said no. He said he was trying to fish some piles, and the wind was sending waves over his front. I think he was storing to me. I never did find water yesterday that would come over the front of my boat.

Yeah Oolagah the last two years doesn't seem quite like the crappie lake it was in years past when people were slaughtering them all year long. Must be because of the lake being turned over. Wasn't it like 12+ feet over a few times in the last two years?

I was thinking of a night trip tomorrow so I can get a friend on the water at oologah does anyone have any experience fishing at nigh t this early any tips or suggestions area ...depth ..lights etc pretty much a rookie when it comes to night fishing or would it be a waste of time this early.. I'm off work at 9 in the morning wanting to get out then just not sure where to start calling for South west turning west winds in 14' v bottoom.... If you guys were getting on the water tomorrow around 10 am where would you start, area, depth any input would be much appreciated really want to get on some fish with lighter winds and finally some time off
If you're want to night fish this time of year, I'd consider Billy Creek off the Verdigris River, or any shallow tributary to a lake that you can manuever around in. A regular alum shrouded shop light with a 12volt rough service bulb will work just fine. I'd take two batteries if you're going to be out there awhile. I have two and took an old extension cord to plug it into and just cut the male portion off the extension cord and attached a couple of clamps to hook up to the battery. I use about a 5' 1x4 and clamp it to the side of the boat so I could hang the light up higher.
You'll want some sort of small heater just to keep your hands warm and take a couple of pairs of gloves and a towel to dry your hands before you put them back on. Dress warm enough to be in freezing weather! Some type of head lamp or LED flashlight for a cap it good to have.
Chouteau Creek off highway 412 would make a good night stalk trip this time of year. If you can read the water temps, look for the warmer waters. Fish all brush, stobs and stickups from 1-5' deep. If you're lucky, the wind will be still, and you should at the least have a great time just in the hunt alone. I've fished for Crappie for 46 years and some of my best memories are from those silent, late night trips up an old creek channel that feeds some deeper water. You can't beat it!
I also use a flourescent bobber and have a couple of black lights to boot. Clear blue flourescent line is the bomb when using a black light while night fishing!
