Monsters! Can't imagine snagging something that big.
i have spent several hours on the lake this past week. I have fished everything from the bouyies in front of the dam to 4 miles north of wiganon. Wednesday was pretty weather, but took me awhile to find the fish. at 2 oclock i had 6 fish in the tub. ended the the day with 79. there were 3 of us this day. color didnt seem to matter. hair jigs produced 7:1.
Thursday was also similar. It was just the professional and I. We tried some new water. Fish stuck to brush. the common theme throughout the lake each day, 22fow fishing 14-18 feet. again color did not matter. the professional exclusively 2 poles with double hair jigs. i also 2 pole, but i generally always run one pole with plastic and the other hair. I am changing plastics all day to find one that competes with the hair. ended with 72.
Friday my dad and i took Fishers on a little scavenger hunt. you saw those post. however, i see he did not post his prize and i had another picture he did not have. He had 2 around the 20lbs mark. The one my dad is holding went 48lbs and the one i am holding is 36lbs. we ended the day on a little crappier note. when you see Fishers pull out his minnow minder, hes no joke either!
Saturday I went back for a half day trip. same pattern, but color did matter. if you had anything with pink, you were good. once again i fished water i have not been on this season. 37.
Boy, sounds like ole Wills place is hoppin!
Good job Ledge! Like to see Okies posting!!
Wow Ledge! You got in a whole winter of fishing in one week. I like it that you stick with it till you find em.the posts and pictures were so good that I hate to throw in my usual complaint....so I won't.
Ciller, it bothers Fishers just as much! I did go for the scales once, and the battery was dead! I did use a clicker, but, i am missing the person that clicks ALL landed fish! what did your people think of that Calcuta?
I actually believe I may be the only person on at least three islands who owns a fishing reel period! I have seen more ways to catch fewer fish in the last 5 months than in my previous 5 decades- seriously. Here are just a few. Handline using flour and water rolled into a worm shape with no hook! Just pull it up really fast! Three days ago I watched a guy fishing a handline snagging rig consisting of a 6 inch circle of hooks below a wad of seaweed bait. He somehow caught 4 little aquarium sized and colorful dinks which he carried in his dead well; a plastic bag. Yesterday I saw two men seining the ocean with about a 100' seine. They caught zip in 3 passes. Ditto for the dude with the cast net. ( bad form TC- you could have schooled him) same results for the six men who spent about an hour herding fish into a big corral made from bamboo and netting. No fish with their rice today- bummer. My favorite is the two guys in the outrigger. One paddles like he's on fire while the other one throws a handline with a jig and coconut attached. They troll for 10' then repeat the process. So far I have never seen them trade places or score but the paddler has an impressive upper body....or somy wife says..I didn't notice- honest. So to answer your question I draw a crowd of really friendly anglers and lurkers who offer a lot of incredibly foreign advice each time I attach the Calcutta to my telescoping 9' rod. Just like at home I don't catch jack but unlike at home nobody laughs at me or posts unflattering pictures and comments so all in all I am probably a little ahead doing my imitation of a fisherman right here. And the scenery is amazing- and we are in the dead of winter with temps ranging from 74-84 every day. I keep expecting the season to change but people say it already did and I just failed to notice.
