Guess I'll fess up an admit I only caught 5 Saturday. The bad part was I only had 2 keepers out of the 5. I had to work half a day and didn't get on the water till 2 in the afternoon. Was kinda hard headed too and stayed in one spot, shoulda moved around, but just felt kinda lazy. I know its gotta get better soon. With all the cold fronts and the corp droppin the water level, seems like the crappie just can't stay turned on for more than a day or so. Just gotta stay after em, they gotta hit the banks hard real soon. I bet it happens when the lake gets level again.
I was out for a while late last week til the wind blew me off the lake. Only a couple of boats out and I was the only one fishing for crappie. I only caught two white bass. Whisperer were your fish deep?
The finally slowed down on how much water they were releasing at dam! Caught 3 nice big ones in about 2 foot of water. caught about 12 all together. Fishing should be better the next couple of days. I caught these up in Talala creek.
No I was fishin 10 to 11 FOW. Just can't keep from fishin shallow now, heck its the end of April. Maybe I should be fishin deeper, waters still up and they're still pullin water out. Everything tells me they should be shallow, but the crappie just weren't there. Maybe the fish don't like them pullin water out of the dam and spillway at the same time. You know fish like to turn off at the slightest hint that something doesn't feel right.
Dont know about Oologah Crappie but mine do not like a current..will put the lock jaw in place and its hard to bet bit.....Ranger
So frustrated with Talala the last couple of weeks i tried lightening creek again last night. caught 10. about half in 2ft fow. A couple of males but their tales were still good. All of the fish were jr. slab to slab range. I think if the sand bass (20) would have left my bait alone i might have caught more crappie.
Hopefully some will be on the banks by May 5th. I'll be at this lake visiting the in-laws and plan on some crappie fishing.
We fished today from 10 to 3 and caught 14 all in 2-3 f.o.w. Mostly in and around buck brush. 10 were over 10" and 3 weighed just over a pound. All were males except 2 of the larger fish, who were full of almost runny eggs. All on minnows and around Talala Creek. Saw several slab hunters but nobody admitted to catching more than a few. Slow as it was it did feel good to see that bobber go under!
