That was a white male during the spawn. Hey that boat bottom looks familiar!
Ok thanks for the info reaper. there were a few like this one that looked a whole lot more "spotted" than the others. The other males were dark but the lines were a lot more defined.
The Black color on the males in the spring is a common misconception. I thought people might not belive me so i took a pic.
Sorry for the bad photo its kinda a side angle but i think you guys will agree its definetly a Black. I know about the counting the spines thing but to me there diffrent as night and day. The Black Crappie is more Rounded and usually thicker accross the back. The main thing is the missing Vertical lines
This fish and the others all came from Blue Creek

That sure enough looks like a black Jig61. I actually caught one black this summer too, wasn't very big 9-10 inches. I was just proud to catch one. I'd heard there were a few, but I'd never caught one in Oologah. I think its just about like finding a needle in a haystack in Oologah. I sure wish they would stock some, I'd love to see more of them.
Thats a Black Species alright. Some call em specks and they are a beautiful Crappie. In the spring when they get their coats on what a there isnt another fish swimming that is more handsome. The White Crappie has a maximum of 6 dorsal fin spikes. The Black Crappie has 7 or 8 spikes. Hope this helps in determining the difference...Ranger
Just a quick tip for anyone fishing on Oologah. I heard from some Baitshop people that a lot of peple are having their boats messed up from hitting stumps and running aground in the skinny water!!!! Be careful out there!

White crappie have a maximum of 6 spines on their dorsal fin, blacks have 7-8. Thumbs Up
