We are in the Porum area. We use super lite rigs and crappie magnets (dark dark purple). We use Crappie nibbles too.

My hubby and I are taking a break for a week or so. We was hitting the dock 2 days a week for s few months and I need to recover. It is (was) really cold and when we go we stay out all day. I am going to leave the fishing to my Daddy for a bit then hit it again around the end of the month. I was sad that none of the catfish were even nibbling the last 2 trips : (

Default Strange but true crappie stories...

Fished Saturday and Sunday off my dock in the north end. Started Saturday fishing with minnows about 12-15' deep. After two hours without a bite, I thought it was cute that my 4 year old put her Disney Princess fishing pole in about 4' deep. She caught a 10" crappie in about 14 seconds. I immediately raised all my lines to 4-6' deep and started pulling out fish. Between yesterday and today I caught about 25 crappie all about 3-6' deep off my dock which is in 18 FOW. Cleaned 16 tonight with the biggest at 1.2 lbs. Caught the second largest 2' deep! What gives? Guess I got schooled by my pre-k daughter...

Noticed several fishermen on either side of the culvert at Crowder along highway 69 yesterday. I often stop and walk down and visit with the fishermen, but didn't really have time when I drove by. Usually it's a pretty good indicator that the crappie are biting, especially when I come back by a couple of hours later and the same vehicles are still there. Not sure about yesterday though, it might have simply been due to a holiday and people were taking advantage of being off on Monday.

I fished the Crowder area and had 8 all day Saturday. We were fishing brush in 12-16ft. There were some people out fishing and I didn't see alot of catching! But the lake was on a little rise from the rain last week. I know that the creeks were muddy which makes it tough fishing! EB

Fished Saturday from about noon until 5:00pm caught 12 keepers. Most were caught fishing in 10-12 feet water at about 6-7 feet depth. People around me were having a tough time as well. As EB said the water clarity is real muddy. Went Sunday tried to fight the wind, found loads of shad with fish stacked all through them but couldn't manage a bite. Finally I got tired of being wind whipped and found a arm of the creek with less wind. Caught only 2 before having to head out. I caught them when I could sit still for a good moment. Had to enjoy being out in that kind of weather for January though, wind was a tough factor.

Was able to get out on a beautiful day today. Started out cool with a light south wind. Then sun came out and it got hot! Only had on warm clothes, ended up fishing like "Bubba", with my GoreTex fishing bibs and no shirt. Fished north end, brush in 11-15 fow. Cleaned 21, with most of them really good fish.

Fished Saturday on the north end of the lake, and had 28 keepers. We were spide rigging minnows in 16-20 fow fishing 10 ft deep. I fish were scattered all day. One here and one there, we saw two more boats out fishing they had had around 15-20 as well. Fish starting to bite a little on the north end just hope the water stays good. Its muddy right now but with some clarity to it, about 5 inch vis. EB
