Crowder/Coal Creek
Haven't heard a lot of reports from Eufaula lately and I've been busy taking care of my Wife since she had foot surgery at the beginning of June. So I was finally able to get out today and decided to try down South. When I went through Haskell at 4:30 a.m., the bank clock said it was 81. I knew it was gonna be a scorcher! (when I came back through about 2:30, it showed 104)
I was on the water at Crowder Park at 6:30. My original plan was to hit some rip rap and brush piles in the Crowder area and then head to Blocker Bridge and back down to Coal Creek. However, since the wind was pretty brisk, I decided against Blocker and headed to Coal Creek after picking up a half dozen or so at Crowder along the rip rap and over shallow brushpiles.
Hit the rip rap at CC and was picking up a few about 6 to 8 feet using blk/pnk and blk/chrt 2" beavertails. Then headed up the creek and hit the Timber. Didn't do as well as I expected, but managed a few fishing 4 to 6 ft down around trees in 8 to 10 ft of water.
By noon it was getting warm so I headed back. Stopped and picked up a couple more around brush piles in the Crowder area and came home with 19, including a nice 14 1/2 incher I found over a brush pile in Coal Creek. Probably caught twice that many sub 10 inchers that were thrown back and some decent BB. In hindsight, I would have caught more if I'd just picked one spot to fish rather than trying to hit them all! But oh well, it was fun (except when I was looking off and got my line caught up in the prop of the TM..not so much fun then...
)
I was surprised to find the water muddy/murky. Temp was 85 when I put in at Crowder and 89 when I came out. The mid lake area looks clearer if you want some unstained water.
