That is 4 good reports and I have to work all week. Thanks for the reports guys. I have caught more black crappie on Eufaula this year than I ever remember. Has anyone else found that to be true? I see where Don had some nice black crappie in his pic.

    Default Rednchartreuse

I've been going to Graves creek and don't know Eufaula too well. Can I ask you which ramp you put in at and how far up the creek should I start trying if I try Gentry creek? I got one more day of vacation (tomorrow) and may not be able to get away for the early morning bite, but would like to try the evening bite if it works out. What colors were you having most success on? At Graves creek my girlfriend outfished me with blue/white tubes while I fished with red/white tubes and black/chartreuse Yum beavertails. She was religious about putting on crappie nibs too and I think they made a difference.

I have heard that Mill Creek has had some excellent evening fishing lately doodlesocking the banks.

I have caught very few specks on Eufaula, but several Blacknose.

I have caught more specks on Ft Gibson.

Froggie - I put in at Gentry Creek Campground right off of 266. I use both the East and South ramps depending on the wind. There are alot of great spots in this area. If you head east then back south towards 266 there are rock ledges, beaver dens etc. you can catch fish on. If you head North or Northwest you can find coves and rock ledges that also hold a lot of fish

Default Rock Creek 5-03 to 5-05

My Wife, Daughter and I camped at Crowder Point the last few days. We got there Monday evening around 6 p.m. and got settled in. Got the boat in the water a little after 6:30 for about an hour or so worth of fishing.

Caught 8 crappie anywhere from 2 to 3 ft deep in 6 fow using Blk/Chtr and Blk/Pnk beavertails.

Got up the next morning and hit the water at 8 a.m. Started fishing the Rock Creek bridge rip rap and the rocks at the back of the cover. Then hit the rip rap on the West side and fished North before coming back to the bridge and fishing the rip rap there again.

Stopped at 11:30 for lunch then a nap. Back on the water at 3 p.m. fishing the same areas. Ended the day with 34 nice fish fishing 6 to 8 fow fishing 2 to 4 ft down. Water temp was 65 to 71.

Most fish came off of a Blk/Pnk Beavertail and a few off of a BG Elec/Chkn.

This morning started in the same places but fishing seemed to be harder. Fish seemed scattered and we stopped at noon for lunch and a nother nap. (I'm really liking stopping in the middle of the day for lunch and a nap in A/C!) The fish on average were smaller this morning than the previous two days. Found that odd.

The wind laid enough this afternoon so we could make it to Blocker Bridge. Got there about 5 p.m. just in time to see Todd H. headed East to the main lake point on the North side. Saw them catch a few there. After about 15 minutes, he headed back toward Crowder.

We trolled around both the South and North ends of the rip rap but finally decided on the North side because we picked up more fish there. Especially around the new rock that has been placed there.

We must have caught 4 or 5 small crappie for every keeper we caught. Sometimes I would have two dinks on each rod!

I also noticed that we weren't getting good hooksets on these Crappie even though they fought harder than any others we'd caught in the previous days. Not sure why that was, but we lost many and brought many in that were just barely hooked. Maybe because we were fishing deeper, I dunno.

We started catching good keepers by fishing 6 to 9 ft deep, fishing the drop offs and structure (which I believe were rock piles) in 10 to 15 fow. Of course, Blk/Pnk Beavertails were the ticket.

Ended the day with 29 keepers.

Here's thing I noticed and would like anyone's thoughts on it. I was running low on Yum Blk/Pink beavertails and found a few packages of Bobby Garland 3 inch Black/Pink Slab Slayers. While we did catch fish on them, by far the better bait was the Beavertails. Anyone else find this to be true? Just wondering what could be the cause of this. The SS is a much brighter pink and I thought it would be favored, but not in the two full days we were there.

Overall had a good time. The Crowder Point Campground is a very nice place to stay. We rented their RV. I thought it was a bit pricey, but it's right by the ramp and it was very spacious (as RV's go). And it allowed us to come in for lunch and take that all important nap afterwards!

I also noticed a lack of Lake Patrol in the area and it really showed. We camped within site of the ramp and I can't tell you how many bozo's buzzed by within feet of the 'No Wake' buoy, not to mention any boats in the area. It seemed that the more expensive the boat, the fewer manners or brains the owner had.

    Default Thanks Redn

I drove by Gentry Creek yesterday but we ended up putting in at Graves Creek. We started catching a couple when we got towards mouth of creek. We caught fourteen keepers but they weren't averaging as large as they were a week or two ago. Minnows and green/blk beavertails and pink/blk beavertails. We got started about 6:30 am and fished till 3pm. Caught most very shallow, about 1 or two ft deep over two to four fow. Didn't catch any deep. They were tight in nasty brush along the bank. Doodlesockers dream I reckon. I'll definitely try Gentry on my next days off unless I take a day to chase brids at Skiatook. They been going nuts there.

Good report OD; I can honestly say the Beavertails work better and it has to be the scent/salt i can attribute to them holding the bait just a tad longer. On days when they are hammerin anything it dosent matter too much.
Thanks Froggie; 2 of my doodlesockin buddies came by yesterday and Tues. they had 2 limits from around Millcreek.

Are you guys using jig and cork, or just dabbling the baits. I mean, how are you staying 4 ft deep in 8 fow?

SO, I use two jigs tied about a foot apart. I use a 12 foot rod, so I let out how much I need. I generally hold my rod about a foot above water. So if I want to fish 4 feet down, I let out about 5 feet of line.

I generally fish with two rods if the fish are biting fairly good. I simply use my trolling motor and *try* (depends on the wind!) to move along about .5 mph, holding the rods out front and just letting the jigs glide through the water.

It's a lot like spider rigging, but I hold the rods unless the fishing is slow, then I use my spider rigging rod holder and use 3 to 4 rods.

Spider rigging is a live-well filler most of the time, but I really prefer feeling the THUMP you get when holding the rod!

No corks, just letting out enough line to find the Crappie!
